1. Preparation:
Harvesting: Ensure the bees are sourced ethically and safely. Remove any non-edible parts like wings and stingers.
Cleaning: Rinse the bees thoroughly to remove any dirt or debris.
2. Marinade:
- Create a marinade using ingredients like soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, honey, garlic powder, onion powder, and your choice of spices. This will help flavor the bees and aid in the drying process.
3. Marinating:
- Place the cleaned bees in the marinade and let them soak for several hours or overnight in the refrigerator.
4. Drying:
- Preheat your oven to a low temperature (around 175°F or 80°C).
- Spread the marinated bees on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Dry the bees in the oven for several hours until they are completely dehydrated and have a jerky-like texture.
5. Storage:
- Store the dried bee jerky in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.
6. Enjoy!
Once your bee jerky is ready, you can enjoy it as a unique and protein-rich snack.
- Shelf Life: Properly stored, your bee jerky should stay good for about 1–2 months. If you want to extend its shelf life, you can refrigerate or freeze it, which can help it last up to 6 months.
