SANTA MONICA, CA — In a shocking revelation that has left gamers outraged and frustrated, Activision announced on Thursday that its upcoming blockbuster title Modern Warfare 3 will require so much storage space that it will not install on the PlayStation 5 unless every other game and save file is permanently deleted from the console.

According to a press release, the latest installment in the popular first-person shooter franchise will boast unprecedented graphics, sound, and gameplay features that will require a whopping 1.5 terabytes of data, exceeding the PS5’s maximum capacity of 825 gigabytes.

“Modern Warfare 3 is the most ambitious and immersive game we have ever created, and we are confident that it will deliver an unparalleled gaming experience to our fans,” said Activision CEO Bobby Kotick. “However, due to the sheer size and complexity of the game, we regret to inform you that it will not be possible to install it on your PS5 unless you sacrifice every other game and save file that you have ever downloaded or created on the console. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but we assure you that it will be worth it.”

The announcement has sparked a wave of backlash and criticism from the gaming community, who have accused Activision of being greedy, lazy, and disrespectful to their loyal customers.

“This is outrageous. How can they expect us to delete everything we have ever played or saved on our PS5 just to play one game?” said Tyler Johnson, a 23-year-old gamer who had pre-ordered Modern Warfare 3 for $69.99. “I have hundreds of hours of gameplay and progress on games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Demon’s Souls, Horizon Forbidden West, and more. I’m not going to throw them away for some overhyped shooter that will probably be full of bugs and microtransactions anyway.”

Johnson added that he was considering canceling his pre-order and switching to the Xbox Series X, which reportedly has enough storage space to accommodate Modern Warfare 3, with enough left over to install Peggle 2.

Activision has not responded to the criticism, but has advised PS5 users to back up their data on external hard drives or cloud services before attempting to install Modern Warfare 3, which is scheduled to be released on November 17, 2023.
