Parents Outraged Over ‘Inside Out 2’s New Emotion: Libido
Pixar’s sequel Inside Out 2: The Emotions Strike Back has sparked controversy with the addition of a new character that has families across the nation up in arms: Libido, the scantily clad and buxom emotion.
Previously praised for its sensitive exploration of emotions through characters like Joy, Sadness, Anger, and Disgust, the beloved animated franchise has taken a risqué turn with the introduction of Libido. This new emotion, depicted as a sultry, seductive figure in the movie, purportedly symbolizes desires and urges typical during puberty and beyond.
The reaction from parents has been swift and overwhelmingly negative. “I can’t believe Pixar would stoop to this level,” exclaimed one outraged parent on social media. “My kids are asking me why Libido is dressed like that, and frankly, I don’t have an answer.”
Another parent expressed frustration, saying, “I thought Inside Out was supposed to be about wholesome entertainment. Now I have to explain to my 5-year-old why an animated character looks like they’re headed to a nightclub.”
Critics argue that the portrayal of Libido in revealing attire sends the wrong message to young viewers. “It’s inappropriate and unnecessary,” declared a concerned parent in an online petition. “Kids should be learning about emotions, not being exposed to sexualized characters.”
Despite the backlash, Pixar has defended its creative decision. Director Pete Docter explained, “Libido represents a natural part of human development. We aimed to depict a wide range of emotions, including those that may be uncomfortable to discuss but are essential to understanding oneself.”
Retailers are also grappling with the fallout. “We’re reevaluating our marketing strategy,” admitted a spokesperson for a major toy retailer. “We want to ensure that our products align with parents’ expectations and values.”
As debates rage on social media and in parenting groups, Inside Out 2 faces a turbulent release. Pixar remains committed to its vision of exploring complex emotions, even if it means weathering criticism from concerned families.
Inside Out 2 is currently in theaters, provoking discussion and introspection — perhaps more than Pixar had initially anticipated.
