Nintendo has announced that the upcoming Pokemon game, Pokemon Spectrum, will feature a groundbreaking feature: the ability to evolve Eevee into any of the 71 recognized gender identities.

Eevee, the evolution Pokemon, has been a fan favorite since its debut in the first generation of Pokemon games. Eevee can evolve into different forms depending on various factors, such as exposure to elemental stones, friendship levels, or environmental conditions. However, until now, Eevee's evolutions have been limited to eight types: fire, water, electric, psychic, dark, grass, ice, and fairy.

In Pokemon Spectrum, players will be able to customize their Eevee's gender identity using a new item called the Spectrum Stone. The Spectrum Stone will allow players to choose from a list of 71 gender identities, such as agender, bigender, cisgender, genderfluid, genderqueer, intersex, non-binary, pangender, transgender, and more. Each gender identity will have a corresponding Eeveelution with a unique appearance and type combination.

For example, an Eevee that identifies as agender will evolve into Agendereon, a normal-type Eeveelution with a sleek and neutral design. An Eevee that identifies as bigender will evolve into Bigendereon, a dual-type Eeveelution that can switch between two forms depending on the situation. An Eevee that identifies as cisgender will evolve into Cisgendereon, an Eeveelution that resembles its original form but with enhanced stats and abilities.

Nintendo claims that the new feature is meant to celebrate diversity and inclusion in the Pokemon world. "We want to make sure that every player feels represented and respected in our games," said a Nintendo spokesperson. "We hope that by introducing these new Eeveelutions, we can inspire players to embrace their own identities and respect those of others."

However, not everyone is happy with the announcement. Some critics have accused Nintendo of pandering to the LGBTQ+ community and politicizing a children's game. Others have expressed concern over the potential balance issues and compatibility problems that the new feature might cause. "How are they going to fit 71 new Eeveelutions into the game?" asked one online commenter. "How are they going to balance their types and movesets? How are they going to interact with other Pokemon and trainers? This is a disaster waiting to happen."

Nintendo has not revealed any further details about the new feature or how it will affect the gameplay of Pokemon Spectrum. The game is scheduled to be released in November 2023 for the Nintendo Switch.
